What Mazda Vehicles Have Won Top Safety Pick Titles?
The Mazda brand hit it big this year in the eyes of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Almost every model in the 2020 Mazda lineup earned an award title from IIHS in this year’s safety rankings, even the first-year Mazda CX-30.
The 2020 Mazda CX-30 hit a homerun with the IIHS in this year’s ratings and took home a Top Safety Pick title. The small SUV earned Good and Superior ratings across the board when equipped with the base available LED projector headlights.
Nearly all of the rest of the 2020 Mazda lineup – Mazda3 Hatchback, Mazda3 Sedan, Mazda6, Mazda CX-3, Mazda CX-5, and Mazda CX-9 – took home a Top Safety Pick+ title, the highest award offered by the IIHS. In order to earn this top-tier mark, the 2020 Mazda vehicles had to meet the following safety criteria:
- Good ratings in the following crashworthiness tests: driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, head restraint, and roof strength tests
- Advanced or Superior ratings in available front crash prevention systems (vehicle-to-pedestrian and vehicle-to-vehicle)
- Acceptable or Good ratings for standard headlights
